Making Quilts To Remember Loved Ones
I recently went to a funeral for a relatively young woman (56 years old) who died from an aggressive form or brain tumor. The funeral service was understandably sad but as with most memorial ceremonies, there is a time to reflect on the life of the deceased person through eulogies delivered by family and friends. For someone who did not know this person very well, it was touching and enlightening to find out about their life and achievements. As I was sitting in the church and watching PowerPoint presentations of her life, it occurred to me that there must be other ways to remember that person in the future.
While surfing the net I came across an article on about Kristie Robinson who "does more than make quilts. She mends memories".
Kristie lost her baby daughter at 28 days old so understands the grieving process. She wanted to hold on to the memories of her daughter and started making memorial quilts and teddy bears that gave her great comfort. She has turned her memorial quilting into a business which gives her great pleasure in being able to help other people deal with their grieving in a positive way.
